Baidnath Kumar is an Indian child rights activist and social development professional with over 20 years of experience combating human trafficking, child labour, child marriage, and other forms of child exploitation. He is the Secretary of the Child Rights Foundation, based in Ranchi, Jharkhand, and currently serves as a Member of the Child Welfare Committee in Ranchi and Khunti.

==Early Life==

Baidnath Kumar's childhood was marked by hardship. At the age of seven, he began working as a child labourer, and originally from Samastipur, Bihar, he later moved to Jalandhar, Punjab, where he worked in hotels and hostels, washing utensils and doing other odd jobs, while continuing to pursue his education. He was also engaged in child labour in brick kilns during this period. These early experiences shaped his awareness of child rights and later became the foundation of his work protecting vulnerable children.

==Education==

Baidnath Kumar completed his Matriculation from BSEB, Patna, in 1991, his Intermediate through NIOS in 2020, and a B.A. LLB from Radha Govind University, Ramgarh, in 2025.

==Career==

Since the year 2000, Baidnath Kumar has worked against child rights violations, human trafficking, child labour, child marriage, child sexual abuse, and other forms of human rights abuse. Through his efforts, more than 10,000 children have been rescued from child labour and trafficking, with the support of police and government agencies.

His rescue operations have extended beyond Jharkhand to other parts of India, including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Goa, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Tripura, and Assam, as well as cross-border regions including Bangladesh and Nepal. Through his initiatives, several traffickers have been arrested, including 36 major traffickers, 23 of whom were brought to justice.

He filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Jharkhand High Court for the protection of children's rights, and has advocated for the implementation of the POCSO Act and the seizure of traffickers' properties under the PMLA Act. In 2018, he was selected to participate in the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP), organized by the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, to share his work on child rights and anti-human trafficking efforts.

His work has resulted in over 220 FIRs against traffickers, including Jharkhand's first FIR on human trafficking in 2012 and its first FIR on child marriage. Under his leadership, the Child Rights Foundation facilitated the enrolment of 1,034 school dropouts through bridge courses in Khunti, Simdega, and Ranchi districts, and between 2006 and 2008, in collaboration with Bachpan Bachao Andolan and ATSEC, led rescue operations and rehabilitation for 212 child labourers' families through government schemes. One landmark operation, a CID-led raid in Delhi, resulted in the rescue of 84 trafficked girls from Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, and West Bengal. Through documentation and legal efforts, the organization also helped expose 240 illegal placement agencies.

He contributed to the drafting of the Domestic Work Bill 2016 and proposed a regulatory framework for placement agencies in Jharkhand. Through sustained advocacy, he has been credited with helping shift public perception around reporting trafficking, contributing to an increase in trafficking-related FIRs from 23 between 2000 and 2010 to over 300 in the years since.
