Sanjukta Mukherjee is an Indian Hindustani classical vocalist, music educator, and instructor based in Gurgaon, Haryana. She is the Founder and Director of Gurukul Music Academy, an institution established in early 2014 to promote Indian classical music and vocal education. With over 25 years of experience in Hindustani classical music and vocal training, she is also an approved A-Grade Artist of All India Radio and Television (Prasar Bharati). She is widely recognized for her expertise in Hindustani classical music, semi-classical music, music education, and performance.
Early Life
Sanjukta Mukherjee was born on 22 September 1981 in Bardhaman, West Bengal, India. Her musical journey began during childhood under the guidance of her father, Shri Somnath Mukhopadhyay, a renowned classical musician who became her first guru. She started teaching music alongside him at the age of fifteen, laying the foundation for her lifelong career as a vocalist and educator.
Education
Sanjukta Mukherjee completed her schooling at Harisabha Hindu Balika Vidyalaya, Bardhaman, West Bengal.
She earned a Bachelor of Arts with Music from MUC Women's College, Bardhaman, in 2003. She later completed a Master of Arts (M.A.), Master of Music (M.Mus.), and a Master's Degree in Sociology from IGNOU.
She is a Sangeet Visharad in Indian Classical Music, Rabindra Sangeet, and Nazrul Geeti, earning a Gold Medal. She also holds the prestigious Sangeet Bhaskar degree in Hindustani Classical Music and received mentorship from renowned classical maestro Pt. Shri Ajoy Chakrabarty.
Career
Sanjukta Mukherjee began her professional teaching career as a music teacher at Kids Kingdom School, Jodhpur, Rajasthan (2004–2006). She later served at St. Xavier School, Jodhpur (2006–2007), followed by Kendriya Vidyalaya, BSF, Jodhpur (2007–2008).
Since 2010, she has been associated with Amity International School, Gurgaon, where she has continued mentoring students in Indian classical music.
In early 2014, she founded Gurukul Music Academy in Gurgaon, Haryana, with the vision of providing structured training in Indian classical and semi-classical vocal music. As Founder and Director, she heads the faculty board and conducts regular vocal classes, home tuition, workshops, and performance-oriented training for students of all age groups.
