She pursued her undergraduate studies in Psychology at Bagbazar Women's College, Kolkata, followed by a Master’s degree in Psychology from MS Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences, Bangalore. Payel began her career in the entertainment industry with television advertisements and catalog shoots. In 2010, she gained recognition by becoming the 2nd runner-up in the "Adwitiya Beauty Contest" organized by Keya Seth Aromatherapy. Her subsequent work in a 2011 calendar and print campaign solidified her position as a leading model.

Payel made her television debut with the serial Bhalobasha.com (2010) on Star Jalsha. Over the years, she appeared in various popular television shows including Tapur Tupur, Bene Bou, Tumi Robe Nirobe, Guru Dakshina, Bhakter Bhagaban Shri Krishna, and Andarmahal.

Payel is deeply involved in politics and is a member of the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC). She has also served as the West Bengal State General Secretary of All India Human Rights and is currently the state president of National Anti-Corruption & Crime Control Bureau.
