ATANU BHOWMICK
Atanu Bhowmick is an Indian metallurgical engineer and former Director In Charge of Rourkela Steel Plant, one of the integrated steel plants of the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL). He is recognized for his leadership in the Indian steel industry and possesses extensive experience in blast furnace iron making, steel manufacturing, plant operations, and organizational management.
Early Life and Education
Atanu Bhowmick was born on 22 December 1964 in Rourkela, Odisha, India.
He completed his Bachelor of Science (Engineering) in Metallurgy from the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Rourkela. He later earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Human Resource Management, combining technical expertise with leadership and organizational management.
Career
Atanu Bhowmick spent his professional career with the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), where he held several technical, operational, and leadership positions.
He has extensive experience in Blast Furnace Iron Making, working in the operation, maintenance, modernization, and optimization of blast furnace processes for efficient hot metal production. Throughout his career, he contributed to improving furnace productivity, operational efficiency, raw material utilization, process stability, energy conservation, and safety standards.
He later served as the Director In Charge of Rourkela Steel Plant, where he was responsible for overall plant operations, production planning, modernization projects, human resource management, safety initiatives, and strategic development. Under his leadership, the plant continued its focus on operational excellence and sustainable growth.
