Ramesh Gandhi is an Indian media producer and businessman, and the founder of Rainbow Productions Ltd, Rainbow Infrastructure & Housing Development Ltd, and Arm Merchandise Pvt Ltd. He has worked across media production, minerals, large-value construction contracts, transportation, and dredging, and is known for producing two National Award-winning Bengali feature films.

Career

Ramesh Gandhi's companies have been engaged in media-related work including the production of feature films, mega serials, news and current affairs programmes, talk shows, breakfast shows, documentaries, and weekly serials, including content for OTT platforms, as well as advertising, mining of minerals, execution of large-value construction contracts, transportation, and dredging.

He produced a landmark Bengali-language mega serial comprising 1,620 episodes, which was telecast on the primary channel of Doordarshan over eight consecutive years. His media company also produced other television programmes aired on DD-1 and DD-6, including the daily newscast Khas-Khobor, the daily news roundup Aajke, and the programmes Mukho Mukhi and Suprobhat.

Ramesh Gandhi produced several landmark feature films starring Jaya Bachchan and her son Abhishek Bachchan, through which he launched Jaya Bachchan in the Bengali film industry after a gap of more than 25 years. He is also credited with launching Jaya Prada in her debut Bengali film, titled Shesh Sanghat, which also featured Tabu, Jackie Shroff, and Ashish Vidyarthi.

Among his professional colleagues across various companies and fields of activity were filmmaker Goutam Ghose, singer Bhupen Hazarika, filmmaker Ashoke Viswanathan, the late Bangalore Ram Prasad (former Chairman and Managing Director of Bharat Coking Coal Ltd), the late Joginder Singh, IPS (former Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation), and the late Chandan Mitra (Editor-in-Chief of The Pioneer newspaper).

Achievements

Ramesh Gandhi received two National Awards from the President of India for the production of two Bengali-language feature films, titled Dekha and Kicu Pralap Kicu Sanglap, directed by Goutam Ghose and Ashoke Viswanathan respectively, during the calendar years 2001 and 2002. He also received a Chief Minister's Award for the production of a landmark 1,620-episode Bengali-language mega serial.

He was appointed as a member of the Governing Council of the Satyajit Ray Film & Television Institute of India by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, for a period of six years.
