Udai Senapati
Udai Senapati, born Uday Veer Singh, is an Indian film writer, director, author, and cultural commentator known for his contributions to Hindi cinema, Bhojpuri cinema, and independent filmmaking. He is recognised for his understanding of storytelling, visual culture, and film production, and is known in the industry for mentoring young creators and for his book Film Making, which provides a structured understanding of the filmmaking process for students, newcomers, and film enthusiasts.
Early Life
Udai Senapati was born in 1964 in Chhapra, a town in Saran district, Bihar. Growing up in an environment rich in local culture and traditional storytelling, he developed an early fascination with Indian arts and creative expression. His interest expanded beyond literature into cinema, visual arts, and stagecraft, motivating him to pursue knowledge of film direction, writing, and production.
He completed his secondary and higher secondary education at South Indian Association Higher Secondary and Junior College, Dombivali, Thane, Maharashtra.
Career

Udai Senapati entered the film industry at a young age, working closely with directors, assistant directors, cinematographers, and technicians across multiple departments of filmmaking. Over more than three decades, he built a foundation in screenwriting, shot division, editing concepts, music interpretation, and production workflow, working in both Hindi and Bhojpuri cinema.
He worked as a Film Director with Alliance Ventures Ltd. in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region from 1995 to 2001. Since 2009, he has served as Film Director at Cinebhojpuria, dedicated to the development of Bhojpuri art and culture. He has also served as Editor of Cinebhojpuria Magazine since 2001, a platform created to connect people associated with Bhojpuri art and culture and to share experiences and perspectives within the community.
Parallel to his direction work, Senapati pursued writing, contributing articles and features to newspapers and film magazines, including as an editorial writer for Bhojpuri and Bollywood-focused publications, including Cine Bhojpuriya and Bollywood Dreams.
Author – Film Making
One of Udai Senapati's most notable contributions is his book Film Making, published in Hindi as "Cine Nirmaan." The book was published by K.K. Publications, New Delhi, with ISBN 978-81-7844-296-5, and was launched at a book launch event in Mumbai, Maharashtra. It is described as one of the first books of its kind published in Hindi in India, covering topics including film history, regional cinema in India, scriptwriting fundamentals, direction and assistant direction, cinematography and production design, sound, music and editing, art direction, makeup, costume design, choreography, location management, and distribution and marketing. The book is intended for students, technicians, filmmakers, and newcomers to the industry studying film production.
CreativeArt Media
Udai Senapati is the founder of CreativeArt Media, an independent production house established with the aim of creating content-driven cinema rooted in storytelling and cultural depth. The production house works across feature films, documentaries, short films, music videos, educational content, and experimental visual projects, and also functions as a training-oriented space where young writers, assistant directors, and emerging filmmakers gain practical exposure to scripts, shot design, production workflow, and narrative development.

Udai Senapati was born Uday Veer Singh and is professionally known as Udai Senapati. He is based in New Delhi and has family ties to Deoria district, Uttar Pradesh.
