Telangana

Telangana is a state in southern India, officially formed on June 2, 2014, as the 29th state of the Republic of India. With Hyderabad as its capital, Telangana is known for its historical significance, thriving economy, and cultural diversity. It was part of Andhra Pradesh before its bifurcation and now stands as one of India’s most rapidly developing regions.

History

Telangana's roots can be traced to the ancient Satavahana dynasty, followed by the Kakatiyas, Delhi Sultanate, Qutb Shahi dynasty, and later the Nizams of Hyderabad. After India's independence, the region became part of Hyderabad State and eventually merged into Andhra Pradesh in 1956. Years of advocacy for a separate state resulted in Telangana's official formation in 2014.

Geography

Located on the Deccan Plateau, Telangana shares borders with Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh. The Godavari and Krishna rivers flow through the state, supporting agriculture. The terrain is largely hilly with red soils and forests in many regions.

Demographics

Telangana has a population of over 35 million. Telugu is the most widely spoken language, followed by Urdu. Hinduism is the major religion, followed by Islam and Christianity. Hyderabad, Warangal, Nizamabad, and Karimnagar are among the most populous cities.

Government and Politics

Telangana follows a parliamentary system with a Governor as the constitutional head and a Chief Minister leading the executive. The current ruling party is Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), formerly Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), which played a key role in the statehood movement.

Economy

The state’s economy is driven by agriculture, IT, pharmaceuticals, and textiles. Hyderabad, dubbed "Cyberabad," is home to IT giants like Microsoft, Google, and Facebook. Telangana also leads in rice, cotton, and maize production, supported by major irrigation projects like Kaleshwaram.

Culture

Telangana has a rich and distinctive culture influenced by both South Indian and Persian traditions. Festivals like Bathukamma and Bonalu are widely celebrated. The state is known for its classical music, art, and architectural heritage like Charminar and Golconda Fort.

Education

The state hosts prominent institutions such as Osmania University, University of Hyderabad, IIT Hyderabad, and IIIT Hyderabad. The literacy rate is steadily improving due to state-run education initiatives.
